Positive community feedback on the six-week long parklet trial in the West End has prompted an extension of the trial in a new Marine Terrace location at the east end of the CBD.

91视频 Mayor Shane Van Styn said the City has partnered with Pollinators to continue to activate the CBD by extending the parklet trial in a new location in front of the Geraldton Regional Library

“The results of the parklet survey conducted by Pollinators were very positive with 79 per cent of respondents saying they enjoyed using the parklets and 87 per cent wanting to see more parklets in the CBD for the community to use,” he said.

“Acting on a number of suggestions to ‘liven up the other end of the CBD’, Pollinators and the City decided to move the parklet to the east end of the Marine Terrace to trial this location as well.

“The Growth Plan tells us activation of the CBD is crucial to economic prosperity and the initial results of the trial indicate parklets have an important role to play to revitalising the City centre.”

Pollinators Spaces Lead Angie West said Pollinators were pleased with the trial results so far.

“We knew the parklet would provide a place where people could stop between errands to rest and enjoy themselves or to meet up with friends and enjoy a coffee so it was really great to hear this first hand from the community,” she said.

“What they told us via the short survey was the parklet gave them a place to relax that is sheltered and totally pet friendly.

“They also said it was great to see such a creative use of space that wasn’t aligned with an eatery which was contributing to a closer, more inclusive community.”

The parklet will be trialled in its new location for a few months before it returns to the laneway space adjacent to CityHive for the community to enjoy.

Anyone visiting the CBD is invited to try out the parklet and provide feedback on this unique community space via the online survey
