Record investment into renewing aged roads and increasing accessibility across the City region continues in the 2021/22 Budget.

Nearly $10 million allocated in the Asset Renewal Budget will be used to fix and maintain 21kms of sealed roads and to re-sheet 55kms of unsealed roads including 50kms of shoulder and swale renewals over the coming 12 months.

More than 5200m of footpaths will be renewed and 5600m of new footpaths will be constructed in Beresford, Beachlands, Spalding and Mahomets Flats and other suburban areas in the coming financial year.

91视频 Mayor Shane Van Styn said strong financial management is enabling the City to increase the amount of roads and footpaths renewed every year.

“The City’s largest assets are the 207kms of footpaths, 824kms of sealed roads and 1369kms of unsealed roads,” he said.

“Maintaining roads is costly but critical as they form an integral part of the network that enables our primary industries to operate and ensures residents and visitors can safely move throughout the City region.

“Roads are our core business and we are pleased to be getting more done every year and we will continue to do so on our path to recovery.”

External funding secured from Main Roads WA Regional Road Group Funding Scheme will cover more than 66% of the $1.6 million allocated towards resurfacing additional sections Chapman Valley Road, Flores Road, Goulds Road and Nangetty Walkaway Road.

The City has also received $1 million from Main Roads WA to use towards upgrading approximately 14kms of the southern section of Arthur Road.

The Budget also includes resurfacing carparks at the Mitchell Street Community Centre and Rovers Football Club, as well as constructing a new carpark behind the basketball stadium for an additional 80 vehicles to ease parking congestion in the Eighth Street Sporting Precinct.

The City has also received WA Bike Network grant funding to undertake the detailed design of shared paths from Sunset Beach to Drummond Cove and from Tarcoola Beach to Cape Burney this financial year.

Construction of these projects may also go ahead earlier than expected with the State Government committing to $4.3 million in funding for the projects if re-elected.
